Barcamp + Poland = Bootstrap.pl

Category: Uncategorizedciukes @ 9:21 pm

The simple equation doesn’t impress, isn’t it? However the result is a great thing. It all started about a year ago on the very first meeting of the Warsaw-Poland Ruby community. Guys (this is what I heard) very quickly shifted from talking about Rails to share business experiences with start-ups. This is how Bootstrap.pl was born: a mixture of business and technology served in monthly portions. I like this idea for a simple reason, there is too many geeks ignoring the business world and too many business people without any understanding for technical aspects.

I never had a chance to join a meeting to breath with fresh air of innovations see presentations and chat with people, until last Saturday. That was an opportunity to loose my Bootstrap.pl virginity, however being a part of audience wasn’t enough. My friend Daniel – one of the Bootstrap.pl founders – remembered I was working on Tibco Business Studio and asked me to present the Eclipse Platform. Having in mind the average listener won’t be an Eclipse hacker I did my best to not kill all the people with details. This is how a shallow introduction to the platform was created.

English version soon will be ready. If you are familiar with Polish language you may see the original version

The next presentation was business oriented. The co-author of the Grono.net – The first and one of the largest Polish social network websites – told a story on how the project has started and why he failed to claim his share in the profits. Good lesson for all start-up fathers.

Overall impression on my side is very positive. Bootstrap.pl is a great initiative and the recipe for technical-business mixture seems to work. So many hot ideas for web business I have heard from the people I’m sure you will be seeing lot of new web2.0 killer-apps very soon. That’s a shame most of them are targeted for Polish market only. Hope they will cross borders one day and become international projects.
